July is here and we are really in the thick of summer. Today, I'm showing you how to make DIY Story Stones. This fun and easy project is perfect for a hot summer day when you need an indoor activity. Story Stones are also a great way to revive some academic skills now that the school year is just around the corner.
I found these stones in my rock garden, but you can easily purchase similar rocks from a home improvement or garden supply center. The pictures were cut from magazines.
Apply the mod podge with a small brush to the stone and position the picture. Smooth it out with your finger before applying mod podge over the picture and the front of the stone. Don't worry, it dries clear.
I used several thin coats of mod podge to adhere and protect the pictures. Allow about 20 minutes of drying time between each coat.
Use your newly created stones with your kids. Have your child chose a stone from the pile, and use it as a prompt to make-up a story. They can also be used as story characters, or for sorting.
