kan·ga·roo care noun
One of my favorite memories of the 65 long days that my preemies spent in the NICU happened during Kangaroo Care. About 2 weeks after my 28 weekers were born, I was finally able to hold them both together. A lovely reunion for two babies that missed snuggling each other. It was no easy feat to get two preemies comfortable on my chest with all of their leads and wires. A team of nurses placed one baby and then the next, situating them just so under a layer of blankets. And then, one twin’s tiny twig of an arm reached out in a healing hug, and they embraced each other. The monitors were quiet as we all snuggled together. We were going to stay that way for a while. Free DownloadsAfter spending 116 days In the NICU and experiencing a trauma I never thought I’d know; I decided to create a space for other families experiencing that same trauma. ~Carrita Flie, The Premium Promise Project I am excited to share my interview with Carrita from The Premium Promise Project. The work they are doing is amazing and much needed! Make sure to connect and support on Instagram and Website ~ Ali Tell us your story and how The Premium Promise Project began. In 2017 I gave birth to my son Isaac at 26 weeks exactly. I had received a cerclage at 21 weeks, but I guess my little guy was just eager to meet his family! After spending 116 days In the NICU and experiencing a trauma I never thought I’d know; I decided to create a space for other families experiencing that same trauma. I wanted to share Isaac’s story to inspire others. To let other moms know that there is still hope even when your birth doesn’t quite go as planned. What kind of impact do you hope that your organization can have? I hope that other NICU moms will come across my organization and realize that they are not alone. They have so many other moms who are willing to walk hand and hand with them as they navigate this unexpected journey. What is the biggest concern facing your clients today? The guilt of having a child in the NICU. Most times as moms we carry the weight of feeling as if we did something wrong and that’s why our sweet babies came too early. Freeing ourselves of that guilt and truly working towards healing is essential for us moms. What inspires you to keep advocating for families in crisis? I know what it’s like to be ignored, be told that it’s nothing when actually it’s something life threatening. I understand that sometimes doctors and medical professionals are overwhelmed and see your case as just another number. But our babies are so much more than just another medical case. We must be their voice and fight for them until we are heard. How can someone help support your mission and organization? Sharing our Platforms and story to bring awareness is always appreciated. Monetary donations are also greatly appreciated as we do have families who are unable to provide the essentials needed for their babies after NICU discharge. Please share anything else you would like to include such as sales or coupon codes, advice, etc. My book “You’re Still Here” can be purchased on Amazon. This post contains affiliate links. She writes silly stories for kids and believes even the smallest hat-tip, in the simplest of books, can teach our kids how to approach the world. Kelly’s children’s stories are perfect to read aloud to your little humans or to have your older kids read to you (hey, let them flex those new reading skills!). Either way, you’ll enjoy the giggles.
Me TWo Books Review
Themes: humor, neurodiversity, embracing differences
Meow is a child who sees the world differently. Sometimes those differences cause her teacher to lose patience. But during a trip to the zoo, Meow's unique ideas save the day.
This book is a wonderful introduction to neurodiversity and reminds us all that being different should be celebrated. The humor in the story is just right for kids, and it's sure to make your littles laugh while they learn important lessons about acceptance.
